PVRIS, ‘GODDESS’ — Single Review ★★★★☆

‘GODDESS’ by PVRIS — Single Rating: 4/5 ★★★★☆

As is typical for her, Lyndsey Gunnulfsen, the band’s founder, who also plays many instruments and sings, is in excellent form here. She bursts into the mix twenty seconds into the song. She followers an explosive intro that consists of crunchy guitar riffs that glue themselves to foot-tapping drum strikes.

It would be an understatement to say that this song is catchy. If you listen back through their discography, you will quickly realise that this is one of the band’s strong points. They make songs that get stuck in your head even after the first listening encounter. Also, the music is forever evolving, and even though it’s only over 2 minutes and 30 seconds long, it has a lot of unexpected turns and changes.

Lyndsey said about the new release: “It is a celebration of femininity, all shapes and forms, and a cathartic, guttural scream at the same time.” That message is palpable all the way through the track, with the music matching the sentiment of the wordplay.
